So there’s an apartment complex not too far from my house that had a decent rate and it’s not a bad area to live. I’m headed over there for a tour this afternoon, most likely.

\o/ was my joy at finding it.

\o/ was my mom’s reaction.

>:( was what dad did. /sigh

I should explain. I’m still living at home with my parents, as some of you may or may not know. I pay them a small rent, I help with the utilities, and they use the internet service my work pays for. Yeah, it kinda stinks that I have to pay rent to live with my folks, but eh.

Well, I took my mom to dinner last night as a belated Mother’s Day outing (and maybe to make up for not really being able to do anything for her birthday back in October). We go to a local steakhouse, order some delicious food – she had steak, and I had salmon – and just discuss random stuff. Work, my relationship with Jess, apartment hunting… I don’t really get to sit down and talk to her that often, and it was nice.

Well, she mentions that I need to let dad know about the possible apartment as well. A good idea, to be sure, as I was planning on telling him anyway. I just usually like to run these things by her first.

Well, fast forward a few hours later – back at home. I let dad know that I have a potential apartment that I could be moving into fairly soon, and I mention that I’d have to help them get their internet service switched over (my work pays for my connection – but only if I live there), and he begins to get all emo about being able to pay for the internet.

Yeah. No congratulations on the apartment, no offers to go take a look at it, just griping about the loss of the money that I pay them and the internet I provide.

It’s so incredibly sucky to be looked at as a source of income and not a son.
